In a major organisational reshuffle ahead of next year's assembly elections, the Congress on Friday appointed Aradhana Misra Mona as the president of its Uttar Pradesh unit and named MP Imran Masood as working president, and Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the legislature party leader.
Aradhana Misra Mona Appointed UPCC Chief
Mona, a prominent leader and daughter of Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tewari, replaces Ajay Rai, who had served as the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president since August 2023.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the appointments with immediate effect, according to an official party statement. The party acknowledged and appreciated Rai's contributions during his tenure.
Imran Masood Named Working President
To strengthen its regional organisation, the Congress appointed Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as working president. Additionally, Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad have been named senior vice presidents of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC).
Change In Congress Legislature Party
In another key change, the Congress appointed Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Uttar Pradesh. Singh takes over the post previously held by Mona before her elevation as the state party chief.
Pargat Singh Named Punjab Congress President
The Congress also appointed Pargat Singh as the new Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president with immediate effect. Singh has replaced Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who met former party president Rahul Gandhi and handed him his formal resignation as the chief of the Punjab unit, on Friday.
