DUSU Elections 2026: Voting for the 2026–27 Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections commenced on Friday across participating colleges in the capital. Polling is being conducted in two shifts as students vote to elect representatives for the four central posts.
The elections come amid rising tensions over campaign-related violence, vandalism, and the presence of outsiders on campus. Addressing these concerns, the Delhi High Court noted that any failure by authorities to resolve these issues could impact the vote-counting process.
Voting for day-college students will run until 1:00 PM, while polling for evening colleges is scheduled from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM, according to officials. Vote counting and the declaration of results are set for September 19.
What Are The Key Issues?
Student welfare, campus facilities, hostel accommodation and safety have emerged as key issues in the DUSU election campaign, particularly following the collapse of a five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan earlier this month, which claimed the lives of seven people, including students.
The university has restricted vehicular movement on key stretches, including Chhatra Marg, Probyn Road and University Road, due to the election process.
The restrictions will remain in force on Friday and Saturday until the results are declared, according to a university advisory.
DUSU Updates
- Speaking about the court's directions, Advocate Vimal Tyagi said, "The court also expressed strong displeasure that despite the court's guidelines and orders, the court passes orders every year, violations of the Lyngdoh Committee rules still continue. So this time, the court has said that if any student violates the Lyngdoh Committee rules, they will impose costs on all the students. And the matter has now been listed for November 6. For now, the students have been restrained from holding victory processions," reported PTI.
- On the DUSU elections, NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar says, "The election is underway. Delhi University students have done a remarkable job; they are voting against the BJP, RSS, and ABVP—the very forces that have ruined Delhi University."
-The Delhi HC questioned student organisations, including the ABVP and NSUI, over alleged violations during the ongoing DUSU elections and warned that a penalty could be imposed collectively on all student organisations.
-The Delhi high court barred DUSU election candidates from holding victory processions on Delhi's roads, and within the university campus and hostels.
- Sharing a post on X, NSUI wrote, "Comrades, this fight is no longer just about the elections—it's about saving democracy and self-respect!"
-ABVP DUSU Presidential Candidate Yash Dabas says, "Our main issue will be to conduct safety audits of all hostels and PGs, construct new girls’ hostels in every college, and set up a helpline for PGs and hostels. Students are emotional about the Satya building collapse, and ABVP is still protesting. We will continue the protest until the MCD Commissioner resigns. I am fully confident that ABVP is going to win."

Who Won the 2025 Elections?
In the 2025 election, the ABVP won three of the four central panel posts, including the president's position, while the NSUI secured the vice-president's post.
ABVP's Aryan Maan had won the president's post with 28,841 votes, while NSUI's Rahul Jhansla secured the vice-president's post with 29,339 votes. ABVP candidates Kunal Chaudhary and Deepika Jha became secretary and joint secretary, respectively, after defeating their opponents.
