Amid the EC-SIR row, the Election Commission has issued a point-by-point clarification regarding the dissent following a meeting between Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the election commissioners which was held on Saturday.
According to the official notification, in the case of any person to whom a notice has been issued during the ongoing SIR for being unmapped or having logical discrepancies, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit the homes of such individuals to collect documents and subsequently upload them to ECINet for a decision by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
Such persons do not need to be called for a hearing at the ERO or AERO office. Only in exceptional circumstances, as determined by the ERO, will a hearing be held preferably online. Any adult family member may be authorized by the elector to attend the hearing on their behalf, if necessary. Furthermore, facilities for online hearings are to be strengthened.
