ECI-SIR Row: Congress on Thursday will continue its large-scale protest against the functioning of the Election Commission under the leadership of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi. While the party has been protesting in Delhi for the past two days, the demonstrations will take place across the nation today. Earlier on Wednesday, the INDIA Bloc allies met over a lunch in the national capital to decide the future strategy.

Congress' Large-Scale Protest

Earlier, the Congress announced that it will launch protests in all the states after an Indian Express report stated that objections raised by two election commissioners were not addressed during the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll. The opposition parties, including Congress, TMC, RJD, CPI (M), and Samajwadi Party (SP), alleged that the rules were not followed during the revision exercise, further accusing the poll body of favouring the BJP.

Apart from this, extra security personnel have also been deployed in the sensitive regions to maintain the law and order. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is also preparing to protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi Police detained approximately 260 protesters during a march from Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters and a sit-in at Akashvani Bhavan. These included 10 MPs, including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
