Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das on Wednesday reached Parliament Street Police Station and intimated Delhi Police about the planned October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

He said that the cops were informed that 'cockroaches’ are set to gather. "We asked them to maintain law and order, cooperate with us, and make necessary traffic arrangements. We have provided this formal intimation,” Das said as he addressed the media.

"We have submitted the formal notification and have received the acknowledgement copy from the Delhi Police. Based on our discussions, they also obtained an undertaking from us, and we completed all the required formalities for it. We hope the Delhi Police will cooperate," he added.

The protest call was made in the wake of renewed uproar over alleged irregularities in the decision-making process of the poll body, particularly the SIR exercise.

Das also claimed that the Supreme Court had effectively branded Kumar as the country's "Liar Number One".

CJP makes three demands

Outlining CJP's demands, Das made it apparent that mere resignation from the CEC would not stop their protests. He listed four demands - Kumar's resignation, arrest and probe into illegal decisions during SIR, systematic reforms in EC and freezing of SIR.

"Even if Gyanesh Kumar resigns, we will not bow down. We want proper reforms in the Election Commission. Otherwise, the ECI will never be fair...We have to ensure that Kumar resigns and he is arrested. We want systemic reforms, freezing SIR, probing illegal decisions during SIR," he said.

Das also demanded that the government must ensure people like Gyanesh Kumar do not sit in such a position. Making a call for mass mobilisation, Das said, "I want everyone to come. Pack your bags. It will be a long fight."
