Passport Online Application: Are you planning to travel abroad for work, study, or a vacation? Getting an Indian passport is now much easier thanks to a fully digitalised process that saves you from standing in long queues. Furthermore, having a passport simplifies online identity and document verification for various official purposes.

Earlier in July, the government hiked the application fee for fresh passports and reissues to Rs 2,500.

Applicants should not wait and apply for their passport now if they want to avoid paying even higher fees in the coming years.

Here is everything you need to know about who can apply and how to do it online.

Who Can Apply For An Indian Passport?

- Adults (18 years and above)

-Minors (below 18 years)

-Senior citizens

-Government employees

-Foreign nationals of Indian origin are eligible for an OCI card.

How to Apply for a Passport Online?

Applicants need to register on the official Passport Seva Portal, fill out their details, pay the application fee, and book an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).

- Register on the Passport Seva Portal

-Visit the official Passport Seva Portal (https://www.passportindia.gov.in/psp) and select “New User Registration". Choose your nearest Regional Passport Office (RPO), enter your basic details, and complete the registration process through the verification link sent to your email.

- Log in and Start the Application process

-After activating your account, log in using your registered login ID, password, and CAPTCHA code.

- Select “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” and choose the online application option.

-Fill in your personal details, family information, and current address carefully. Make sure all details are correct before submitting the form, as changes may not be possible later.

-Once submitted, the system will generate your Application Reference Number (ARN).

- Pay the Fee and Book an Appointment

-Open your dashboard, go to “View Saved/Submitted Applications", select your application, and click on “Pay and Schedule Appointment".

The payment can be made online through:

- UPI

- Net Banking

- Debit Card

- Credit Card

- After payment, select your preferred Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). Choose an available appointment date and confirm your slot.

- Once you payment is done, applicants will receive an SMS with appointment details.

What Documents are required for passport application?

- Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card

- Proof of Address: Electricity Bill, Proof of Date of Birth, Birth Certificate
