IndiGo Fare Hikes: The country's largest airline, IndiGo, increased charges for various ancillary services, including children's travel and unaccompanied minors. The airfare hike is expected to create extra burden on travellers as the festival season nears. People living in metro cities rush to their hometowns during the festival in October-November.
The airline has made changes in the prices of several passenger services. Under the new charges, passengers will now have to pay more for travelling with children, extra baggage, priority service, and travel certificates.
Ticket Rate For Children Hiked
The ticket rate for children under two years on domestic flights has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. This means parents will have to spend Rs 1,000 more per trip with their child.

IndiGo Airlines has increased the fees for carrying baggage over the permitted weight. Now, the airline will charge Rs 800 per kilogram. Previously, this fee was Rs 700 per kilogram, which means every kilogram of extra baggage will cost Rs 100 more. This additional fee will increase proportionately if the excess weight is too much. Passengers should check their weight before travelling.
New Tariff For Priority Services
The fee for the combined priority check-in and priority boarding facility has been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 650. Passengers will thus have to pay an additional Rs 200. This facility is useful for quick check-in and boarding.

Travel Certificate Fees Also Increased
The fee for issuing a travel certificate is now Rs 300 from Rs 200. These changes apply to domestic flights. Travellers should check the new rates at the time of booking to avoid additional expenses.
One of the sources said that charges for some of the ancillary services have been hiked in recent weeks amid rising operational costs, especially due to higher fuel prices. IndiGo's domestic market share stood at 67.4 per cent in July, as per official data.
