A Meerut court has sentenced Muskan and her lover, Sahil, to death for murdering her husband and stuffing his dismembered body into a blue drum. The case relates to the murder of a Merchant Navy officer on March 4, 2025.

The verdict was passed by District Judge Arvind Kumar after a nearly one-and-a-half-year trial. The ruling followed testimony from 22 witnesses, including vendors who sold the drum, knife, and medicines. Both defendants attended the sentencing via video conferencing from jail and remained silent throughout the hearing.

Earlier, Saurabh Rajput's mother had demanded the death penalty for Muskan and Sahil ahead of the court's verdict in the blue drum murder case.

Saurabh's mother, Renu Devi, said, "We want them to be sentenced to death. If there is any punishment harsher than the death penalty, they should be given that..."

Meanwhile, Muskan's parents had submitted a written statement to the court saying they would not oppose the death penalty if it was awarded to their daughter. Saurabh's family had also sought the maximum punishment, which is death penalty, for the two convicts.

What Is Blue Drum Case?

This is one of the sensational crime cases of 2025, which came to light in Meerut on March 18, when a man identified as merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput was allegedly killed by his wife, Muskan Rastogi.

Police investigation revealed that Muskan had started an affair with his friend, Sahil Shukla, while Saurabh was away at sea. After Saurabh returned from overseas to celebrate his daughter's sixth birthday, Muskan allegedly laced his dinner with sleeping pills and stabbed him to death with the help of her lover.

The two chopped Saurabh's body into 15 pieces, stuffed them into a large blue plastic drum, and sealed it with cement at his house in Meerut's Brahmpuri locality on March 19. Muskan and her lover were caught when Saurabh's younger daughter told her grandmother, "Papa is in the drum."

Saurabh was killed on the night of March 4, 2025, at his house in Indiranagar in Meerut district. Muskan and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, are accused of drugging him and stabbing him to death.

Muskan was arrested along with Sahil on March 18. Earlier, Muskan "confessed" to her family before she and Sahil were arrested.

Police said that according to the initial plan, the two accused wanted to pack the body in a suitcase and throw it away. A piece of bone was also found in the suitcase.
