Mumbai Airport Ops Hit Due To Strong Winds, 13 Flights Diverted And 213 Delayed

Strong winds disrupted Mumbai Airport operations on Tuesday evening.
13 flights carrying over 1,300 passengers were diverted to Surat, Ahmedabad and Nashik
Mumbai Airport faced 213 delays and 16 flight cancellations.

Mumbai Airport Weather: Flight operations at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport were hit on Tuesday evening due to strong winds, forcing 13 aircraft to divert to Surat, Ahmedabad and Nashik.

The aircraft were carrying a total of 1,255 passengers. All the aircraft landed at Surat Airport safely. The diverted flights will depart for Mumbai once the weather conditions in Mumbai improve.

Flights that were diverted

According to a report by India Today, IndiGo flight 6E-2017, operating from Tiruchirappalli to Mumbai, landed at Surat Airport at around 6:50 PM with 182 passengers. Another IndiGo flight, 6E-864 from Delhi, arrived at Surat Airport with 122 passengers at 6:54 PM.

Air India (Vistara) flight AI-2941 from Delhi landed in Surat at around 7:02 PM. It had 186 passengers onboard. IndiGo flight 6E-5104 from Chennai to Mumbai arrived at approximately 7:34 PM and was carrying 179 passengers.

Another Air India (Vistara) flight AI-2746 from Goa arrived four minutes later at around 7:38 pm. It was carrying 135 passengers. A Bengaluru to Mumbai flight, IndiGo 6E-5255, landed in Surat at about 7:47 pm with 135 passengers onboard.

At 7:50 PM, Air India flight AI-640 from Chennai landed at Surat with 112 passengers. 6E-5312, another IndiGo flight from Bhopal, arrived with 204 passengers at around 8:00 PM.

News agencies PTI cited sources saying that three flights, QP1150 (Bangalore-Mumbai), 6E5259 (Hyderabad-Mumbai) and 6E5163 (Jamnagar-Mumbai), were diverted to Ahmedabad.

The two flights A12447 (Hyderabad-Mumbai) and 6E5163 (Udaipur-Mumbai) were diverted to Baroda and Nashik airports, respectively, they added.

Second most disrupted airport

Mumbai was the second most disrupted airport at 10:04 PM with 16 flight cancellations and 213 flight delays, according to Flightradar24. The average delay at the airport was 40 minutes.
