Four members of a family died while six others were injured after a car crashed into a stationary vehicle on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway in Maharashtra, the police said on Wednesday. The accident took place near Atagaon on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims were residents of Jogeshwari and were returning to Mumbai after visiting Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga in Nashik. The injured were rushed to Shahapur Sub-District Hospital, where they were undergoing treatment.
The accident left the car mangled due to the severe impact. The truck it crashed into had caught fire two years ago and was abandoned on the side of the road.
Speaking about the incident, a police official said, "The car rear-ended a burnt truck that had been abandoned on the highway for the past two years, reducing the car to a total wreck".
Two children were also among the deceased. The police said that they were establishing the identities of the victims, adding that the six injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment at the Shahapur Sub-District Hospital.
Four children injured after bus overturned in Pune
Earlier in the day, four schoolchildren were injured in a bus accident in Maharashtra's Pune. A bus operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) had overturned following a technical snag.
The accident took place in the ghat section between Khedgaon and Supa, the police said. Two of the children suffered minor injuries while two others were referred to a hospital at Loni Kalbhor for further treatment.

Taking cognisance of the accident, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar instructed the district administration and the police to provide the best medical treatment to the injured students.
The bus turned turtle after it developed a technical snag on an upward incline. There were more than 30 passengers, mostly students, in the bus. All of the other passengers were safe, the cops added.
