Odisha Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest advisory, has warned of heavy rainfall in several regions of Odisha at least for the next two days. The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, which crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam earlier on Wednesday night, continued to wreak havoc in the eastern state even on Thursday. Along with heavy rainfall, the coastal regions are also expected to witness gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Red Alert For Nabarangpur
In its advisory, the IMD issued a red alert for Nabarangpur district, asserting that the region is expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall. The local authorities and residents have been advised to remain alert and take precautionary steps to avoid any inconveniences. The continuous rainfall is likely to cause waterlogging in the lower regions.
IMD Issues Orange Alert For 6 Districts
Apart from this, the meteorological department has issued an orange alert for six districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple regions. A yellow warning has also been issued for other nine districts, where heavy rain is expected due to the influence of the deep depression. While the rainfall is likely to provide relief from humidity, it can also lead to flood-like situation in the lower regions.
What Did IMD Say?
As per the IMD, the deep depression will continue to show its impact even after it has crossed the coastal region. While the southern and western parts of the state are likely to be most affected, several parts of North Odisha are also likely to receive heavy rain throughout the day.
"After the landfall, the deep depression is very likely to move northwestwards, initially maintaining intensity of deep depression for next 12 hrs. Thereafter, it is very likely to move north-northwestwards and weaken gradually during the subsequent 24 hours," the IMD informed.
The residents of the affected districts have been urged to remain vigilant and follow weather advisories issued by the administration and the weather department.
