Punjab: Preparations have begun at the Punjab Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh for Jalandhar Cantonment MLA and former Indian hockey captain Pargat Singh to take charge as the new state party president on Tuesday, October 6.

Party sources indicate that while the final schedule will be confirmed shortly, the swearing-in ceremony marks a key transition for the state unit following the resignation of outgoing chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

Senior Party Leaders To Attend Swearing-In Ceremony

The ceremony is set to bring together nearly all prominent leaders of the Punjab Congress, including state in-charge Sachin Pilot, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Warring.

The party aims to project this gathering as a strong message of unity following months of internal infighting and division among leadership camps. With Pargat taking over, the high command is attempting to unify the organisation and put it directly into the electoral fray, marking the transition as the start of a new campaign phase.

Following the ceremony, the party is also expected to finalise the schedule for Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's proposed tour of Punjab.

Key Meeting In Delhi On October 5

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony in Chandigarh, an organisational meeting has been called in New Delhi on Monday, October 5. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi will meet with state unit chiefs and state in-charges.

This session holds significance for Punjab, as it will be the first time since Pargat Singh's appointment that he and Punjab Sachin Pilot will appear together before the party high command.

Party sources indicate that the high command wants to accelerate election preparations across the state rather than delay them further at the organisational level. Discussions will focus on the state's political situation, organisational capacity, and strategy for the upcoming assembly elections.
