Delhi Politics: In a major political update, Prashant Kishor-led Jan Suraaj is reportedly planning to enter Delhi politics. As per the reports, Kishor will meet the supporters and potential leaders in the national capital on Sunday to discuss the future plans, reported the Indian Express, citing sources. The JSP co-founder is also likely to announce the steering committee for Delhi after the meeting, the report suggested.
What Kishor Is Planning?
The steering committee will work in the coming months to form a regional unit for party and make the appointments on the key posts. The reports suggest that the party is planning to contest the upcoming elections, including the MCD polls in 2027, Lok Sabha election in 2029, and the state assembly election in 2030.
While talking about the plans, Delhi University professor Shantanu Kumar said that the party supporters have approached the locals with the vision of Prashant Kishor, adding that the response has been positive. "Despite not having a party organisation in place in Delhi, we have been reaching out to people taking Kishor's message and vision to them. The response has been positive," Kumar was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Focus On Purvanchali Voters
The Prashant Kishor-led party is likely to raise several issues, including corruption, air pollution, and the Yamuna river pollution. However, the party is also expected to appease the voters from the Purvanchal region to secure a solid voter base. Kumar said that around 25 per cent of the total population of the capital city belongs to the Purvanchal region, adding that it could help the newly formed party.
Earlier in the 2025 Bihar assembly polls, the Jan Suraaj failed to win even a single seat. However, the party slightly recovered after Kishor registered a massive victory in the Bankipur assembly bypoll, a seat earlier held by BJP president Nitin Nabin.
