Day 2 protest of INDIA Bloc leaders turned into a dramatic confrontation on Wednesday as Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Opposition leaders were detained by police.
The Congress leaders were stopped while travelling to Jantar Mantar to join a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. After being prevented from proceeding, they staged a sit-in at a roundabout near the Shangri-La hotel.
As the standoff intensified, police personnel moved in to disperse the protesters. Rahul Gandhi was carried away by security personnel and placed inside a police bus, while Priyanka Gandhi joined women leaders in sitting on the road with a copy of the Constitution.
Congress leaders climbed onto the police bus carrying Rahul Gandhi, while others gathered around the vehicle as the protest unfolded.
