AAP leader and Maur MLA Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana was expelled by the Aam Aadmi Party after he publicly raised concerns over teacher shortages and other issues in government schools in his constituency.
During a social media live session, Maiserkhana spoke about the condition of government schools and said several institutions were facing a shortage of teachers. He said he had repeatedly raised the issue with the Punjab government and senior party leaders, but no solution had been found.
The MLA also highlighted a government school in Burj Sahima village, claiming that it met the criteria for upgradation but had not been upgraded. He further said that his own children study in a government school where there is an acute shortage of teachers.
Maiserkhana Alleges He Was Sidelined
During the live session, Maiserkhana also spoke about his experience within the party. He alleged that despite working to strengthen AAP at the grassroots level, he had been repeatedly sidelined and humiliated.
He claimed that a conspiracy had been carried out against him during the Tarn Taran election. He also alleged that he was told that if he died or something happened to him, a member of his family would be given a party ticket.
The MLA said he feared that speaking openly about such issues could lead to police action or a case against him. However, he maintained that he would continue raising issues concerning his constituency and the public, even if it meant going to jail.
AAP Expels Maur MLA
The Aam Aadmi Party subsequently expelled Maiserkhana, accusing him of anti-party activities. The party alleged that he was spreading false rumours and attempting to damage the image of AAP.
Bikram Majithia Targets Punjab Government
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia also reacted to Maiserkhana's remarks, targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP leader Manish Sisodia over the government's claims regarding education reforms.
Majithia said the allegations by the AAP MLA exposed the “hollowness” of the government's claims about improving education in Punjab.
He also questioned the government's “Siksha Kranti” narrative, pointing to the teacher shortage allegations raised by Maiserkhana and questioning how they fit with the government's claims of transformation in government schools.
