Punjab Congress Crisis: Congress has announced a major protest in Chandigarh today seeking the resignation of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema over the suspicious death of Gulzar Singh. As per the reports, Punjab Congress' new in-charge Sachin Pilot will also arrive in Chandigarh to lead the protest. In the presence of Pilot, the senior leaders, including state party chief Amarinder Raja Warring, former chief minister Charanjit Channi, and Sukhjinder Randhawa, are set to participate in the demonstration.
Earlier, Raja Warring, in a post on X, appealed to all the party workers to join the protest march set to begin at 11 am from the Congress office. Apart from this, Channi, MPs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pratap Singh Bajwa, Dr Rajkumar Verka, and other leaders have also confirmed that they will join Pilot in the protest. The presence of all the senior leaders amid the ongoing internal conflict is likely to send a positive message among the supporters.
Challenge Ahead Of Pilot
Punjab Congress has been dealing with an internal crisis for the past few months, with Channi demanding an organizational reshuffle. As per the former chief minister, the party's performance could improve if Warring was removed from the top post. However, the Congress high command is reportedly not in favor of removing Warring due to his efforts after the party faced a humiliating defeat in the 2022 assembly polls.

However, Channi and his supporters skipped several such meetings, further escalating the controversy. With just a few months remaining in the assembly polls, Pilot has been given the responsibility to resolve the crisis.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Punjab soon to begin the election campaign. The senior leaders, under the guidance of Pilot, have been asked to focus on the common goal ahead of his visit.
