The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday targeted Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi over his latest foreign trip, asking if he was tired of 'spreading lies' after the recent Opposition protests in Delhi.
Sharing a video of him inside the aircraft, the BJP jabbed, asking if he was heading to Vietnam. The sarcastic caption read, "Too tired of spreading lies. Let me tour Vietnam for a while, who would get to know."
The video was purportedly recorded by a fellow traveller, carrying a business class ticket. The video shows Gandhi sitting inside the flight.
Targeting Gandhi over the video, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari slammed Gandhi, saying that he misses festivals like Navratri but never has an opportunity to holiday abroad.
"Rahul Gandhi is enjoying himself abroad on holiday. Instead of holidaying overseas and doing part-time politics, if he had sought a little strength and devotion from Maa Durga during Navratri, perhaps the Congress could have undergone some revival!"
Another BJP spokesperson, RP Singh, asked if he has again flown to Vietnam? "Look, Rahul Gandhi does this every time. After undertaking a yatra in Bihar, he went abroad on holiday for two months. Perhaps he went to Vietnam then, and maybe he has gone to Vietnam again this time," BJP spokesperson RP Singh said.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal targeted Gandhi while asking him to reveal his travel history for the last two to three years and who paid for these trips.
"Rahul Gandhi is not doing this for the first time. He often spends more time travelling abroad. His only job is to come to India, create a controversy over an issue and then leave on foreign trips. Where does he go abroad and whom does he meet? Nobody understands this, and nobody knows. Rahul Gandhi should tell the country where he has travelled abroad over the last two to three years, whom he has met and who paid for his trips," he said.
Congress reacts
Reacting to the fierce and sarcastic attack from the ruling party, Congress accused the BJP of making unnecessary issues out of LoP's foreign trips
Dikshit said, "Who travels outside? When do they travel outside...Do others not travel outside on this day? Rahul Gandhi is an individual, the Leader of the Opposition; he has duties. He interacts with students at Yale University, interacts with students in London and meets the intellectuals there."
Dikshit also took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not holding press conferences and breaking tradition to fly abroad while Parliament was in session. "He even does press interviews - something which the Prime Minister doesn't do. So, what issue does the BJP have with this? We also have a tradition that the Prime Minister doesn't travel abroad when the Lok Sabha is in session. But our PM broke that tradition. Why does no question arise at that time?" Dikshit asked.
