Rahul Gandhi Sangrur Rally: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Sangrur rally is largely seen as the official kick-off of party's campaign for the Punjab assembly elections. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha is likely to raise several key issues, including law and order, unemployment, and drug-related problems. The rally is also crucial for the regional leaders as the ticket distribution process is also likely to begin in the coming weeks.

Unity Test Ahead Of Polls

With just a few months remaining in the assembly election, Congress recently appointed Hockey legend Pargat Singh as its state party chief. The decision was taken after senior leaders, including Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhjinder Randhawa complained about the working style of Amarinder Raja Warring, then party chief in Punjab. While the leadership has been changed, it would be a major challenge for Pargat Singh to keep all the factions together.

Ticket Distribution

The regional leaders have been asked to mobilise large crowd for Rahul Gandhi's rally in Sangrur. As per the reports, the leadership has asked the regional leaders to bring at least 1,000 people with them. The observers have also been appointed to monitor the crowd and vehicles mobilized from each region, reported The Tribune. A report could be prepared after this mega rally as the party prepares to finalise its candidates.

Core Issues And Significance

The party has strategically chosen Sangrur to begin its campaign as the region has emerged as the stronghold of Aam Aadmi Party in the recent years. Out of the total 117 constituencies, 69 of them are in Sangrur region, making it politically most significant. Congress drastically lost its ground in Sangrur as the AAP registered victory on 66 of the total seats.

Rahul Gandhi is likely to target the Bhagwant Mann government in his speech over multiple issues and is also expected to make some key announcements before the elections.
