Actor and politician Ravi Kishan recently attempted to pacify party corporator Vishwajit Tripathi, who called him to complain about a waterlogging issue following heavy rainfall in Gorakhpur. "Arey Brahmin devta, Brahmin devta, suniye..." ("Listen to me, dear Brahmin god," using a caste-coded honorific) Kishan urged. Tripathi quickly pushed back, saying, "It's not about my being Brahmin! Where are you when the city is drowning?"

Kishan then made a scathing attack, asking if Tripathi had joined the opposition Samajwadi Party. To this, the corporator snapped back over speakerphone: "What do you mean by that? Have you joined the BSP, then? Tell me!"

The tense exchange, conducted with a merge of two languages, Hindi and Bhojpuri, soon gained attention as Tripathi shared several clips on social media.

‘Now He’s Missing’

In one of the clips, Kishan mentioned he was monitoring the situation from the Nauka Vihar government resort. Tripathi travelled to the venue, only to record a follow-up video showing the MP failing to answer his calls. Tripathi posted the footage with a jab at Kishan’s past statements: "The MP from Spain called me here. I am here within five minutes, but now he's gone missing."

Defending his response, Kishan stated that he was actively overseeing relief efforts and noted, according to PTI, that the rainfall was unprecedented for the region. He emphasised that the priority during such a crisis must be resolving public grievances rather than politicising the issue.

BJP Regional General Secretary Satendra Sinha said the heavy rain was a natural calamity, noting that party workers and government agencies worked through the night on relief efforts. While stating that any disciplinary action against Tripathi would be determined by the party committee, Sinha expressed his view that internal grievances should be raised through party channels rather than social media.

Tripathi asserted flooding across multiple neighbourhoods and alleged that floodwater regulators at Tarkulahi and Palm Paradise were malfunctioning. Urging Kishan to step in with local officials, Tripathi asked, "Are you saying you just learnt of this situation?"
The public fallout drew a swift response from the Samajwadi Party. District President Brijesh Gautam remarked that their doors remain open to anyone dissatisfied with the ruling party's policies, noting that Tripathi was previously elected on a Samajwadi Party ticket before joining the BJP.
