Uttar Pradesh: A heated argument broke out between two Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders in front of party chief Akhilesh Yadav during a meeting in Lucknow. As the disagreement escalated, the two leaders reportedly hurled abuses at each other.
Following the incident, the party dissolved its organisational units in Uttar Pradesh's Etah and Kasganj districts.
Why Did The SP Leaders Clash?
The meeting, convened to review organisational strength and assess preparedness ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, was attended by around 250 senior leaders and office-bearers from Etah and Kasganj.
According to a report by India Today, citing party sources, an argument broke out between SP leader Manjeet Yadav, nephew of former UP Legislative Council chairman Ramesh Yadav, and former Etah district panchayat chairman Jugendra Singh Yadav.
The argument began after Manjeet Yadav addressed the meeting regarding the party's previous electoral performance. When Jugendra Singh Yadav spoke next, Manjeet Yadav objected to remarks made during his speech. Intervention by other leaders failed to calm the two, and they left the meeting shortly after. An hour later, the SP chief also left the party office.
Shortly after the incident, the party dissolved the district committees of both Etah and Kasganj. The action also covers the frontal organisations in the two districts, according to the report.
SP Gears Up For UP Polls
The organisational restructuring comes as the Samajwadi Party gears up for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently holds all four Assembly seats in Etah district, while in Kasganj, the BJP holds three seats and the SP holds one.
Reacting to the incident, the SP chief said, "…These things happen; it’s okay. This is all because of the arrogance that comes with money. Remember, whoever becomes too wealthy will eventually leave you behind. Now, let’s work together."
The Samajwadi Party is expected to announce newly constituted organisational teams for both districts soon.
