The Supreme Court has asked senior Delhi Police officers to be present in the court on October 14 during a hearing related to the alleged harassment and manhandling of women journalists during the recent protests in Delhi.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Tuesday said that the top court was aware of the allegations and had asked certain officials' presence to inquire into the matter. Notably, in its October 8 order, the top court had asked the police to lift restrictions and refrain from detention unless the law and order situation emerges.

Meanwhile, the apex court has also adjourned the matters related to Delhi protests to Thursday (October 15). CJI-led bench, including Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohanna, was scheduled to hear the matter on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court confirmed that it will take up all petitions linked to the matter on Thursday. Justice Mohana, who was indisposed, joined the proceedings on Tuesday. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta urged the court to defer the hearing after CJI Kant told lawyers that Justice Mohana was unwell.

Other senior advocates from both sides, including Gopal Sankaranarayanan, agreed to the deferment. The top court also granted an extension till Thursday to the Central government to file its response on two pleas - seeking contempt action against authorities for alleged disobedience of SC’s October 8 order on lifting restrictions and against alleged detentions made by the police.

"The affidavit is ready. I would like to add something to make it more comprehensive," Mehta said. While providing the extension to file the affidavit, the bench said the same be supplied to the counsel appearing for the petitioners.
