Jagran Correspondent | Pithoragarh: Amid relentless rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, the Kulagad River overflowed, inundating roads on Friday night. The newly constructed Bailey Bridge, connecting the Dharchula-Tawaghat Highway, was washed away by the heavy rain last night. Consequently, the Vyas, Darma, and Chaudas valleys have been isolated. As the rainfall continues, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for five districts in the state.
Additionally, debris and boulders from Koolagad have disrupted the flow of the Kali River, creating a lake. The administration has issued an alert. On Saturday morning, local residents informed the tehsil administration and police. A team has arrived at the scene.
According to the Indian Meterological Department, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many locations across all districts of the state on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for isolated heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Uttarkashi.
Heavy Rain Alert In Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag
The weather department warned of heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi and Tehri. Travelers traveling in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi and on the Gangotri-Yamunotri Highway have been advised to be cautious, as intense rains can lead to sudden water rises and the risk of landslides at sensitive junctions.
The IMD forecasted an inclement weather in Rudraprayag district on Saturday. Thunderstorms and showers are expected in the Mandakini Valley and the Kedarnath trekking route. The local administration has put pilgrims and residents living near rivers and streams on alert. Instructions have been given to seek shelter in safe, paved areas and avoid waterlogged areas during strong storms and lightning.
Lightning and heavy downpours are possible on the sensitive hills of the border districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. The administration is constantly monitoring the water levels of local rivers like the Saryu and Gomti.
While places such as Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar would experience a moderate with one or two spells of rain. However, according to the weather center, there is a possibility of lightning and light to moderate rain with thunder in some places in these districts on September 12 and 13, due to which the temperature may return to normal levels.
According to the Meteorological Center's five-day forecast, periods of thunderstorms, lightning, and intense rain will continue in some hilly districts of the state on September 13th, 14th, and 15th. Following this, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are also expected at some locations in most districts on September 16th and 17th.
