Odisha News: A man released on bail after being jailed for raping a minor has been arrested again for allegedly murdering the victim and dismembering her body. The suspect, Kunu Kissan, was previously arrested for raping the girl in Sundargarh district in August last year.
The victim had filed a complaint with the Dharuadihi police station. Kissan was released in December 2022. On December 7 this year, the girl's family reported her missing, prompting an investigation by the police, according to Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas.

CCTV footage revealed the girl riding a motorcycle with two men, both of whom were wearing helmets, making identification difficult. Although she was from Sundargarh, the victim had been staying with her aunt in Jharsuguda town.
Using artificial intelligence technology, police traced Kissan to Sundargarh. During questioning, he confessed to killing the girl and disposing of her body parts in two separate locations. The police reported that he slit her throat along National Highway 143, which connects Rourkela and Deogarh and later discarded the remains at Tarkera Nali and Balughat near the Brahmani River.

With the assistance of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), police conducted a search operation along the river to recover the body parts. After several hours, they located the remains, including the victim's head.
Kissan and an associate were arrested for a premeditated murder. Police revealed Kissan planned the crime after his bail, aiming to stop the victim from testifying. To avoid conviction, he altered his motorcycle’s registration. Reports indicate Kissan and the victim had a longstanding association. Investigation into the case continues.
