Pahalgam Terror Attack LIVE Updates: Two Foreigners, Two Locals Among 26 Killed; Security Alert Across India

Russian Vladimir Putin, in a communication to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended his "sincere condolences" over the Pahalgam terror attack and said the "brutal crime" has no justification whatsoever and its perpetrators will face a deserved punishment. Putin condemned attack "whose victims were civilians — citizens of various countries". The Russian President assured India of its commitment to increasing cooperation in fighting terrorism. "Please convey words of sincere sympathy and support to the near and dear ones of the deceased as well as wishes for a speedy recovery of all injured," said Putin.

US President Donald Trump extended support to India after the terror attack in Pahalgam left the nation shocked. "Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all," Trump posted on Truth Social.

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead, was condemned by nations across the world. Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry reacted to the terror incident, saying, "Sri Lanka strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir today. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. Sri Lanka stands in firm solidarity with the Government and people of India in the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to regional peace and security."

The terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 dead, has led to outrage across the country. There has been a call for Jammu bandh or a complete shutdown to protest against the killings in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Jammu bandh call has been given by organisations including the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI),Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP),Transporters' Association, Jammu Bar Association and the Congress party.

Two of the 26 killed in the terror attack in Pahalgam have been identified as locals, reports news agency PTI.  

Two foreign nationals, one belonging to UAE and the other from Nepal, were among the dead, news agency PTI reported citing a high ranking official.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cuts short his visit to Saudi Arabia and is reportedly set to return to India tonight. PM Modi's decision comes amid a terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam which left as many as 27 tourists dead.

JKNC tweets, "On the instruction of the Party President, JKNC joins the collective call for a bandh in strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. We appeal to the people of J&K to ensure the hartal called by religious and social leaders is a complete success."

An Indian Navy officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (26 years old), who was posted in Kochi, was martyred in the Pahalgam attack. He was a native of Haryana and had gotten married on April 16.

“Kindly accept the sincere condolences over the tragic consequences of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, whose victims were civilians — citizens of various countries. This brutal crime has no justification whatsoever. We expect that its organisers and perpetrators will face deserved punishment,” Putin wrote  

US Vice President JD Vance, who is on an India tour, condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 people on Tuesday. "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack," he posted on X. 

An alert has been issued in Delhi after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday, in which at least 27 people are feared dead. Delhi Police has also been instructed to keep a close watch on tourist places and other important places, ANI reported, citing police Sources

As news of the terror attack targeting tourists in Kashmir spread, the Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, claimed responsibility, PTI reported.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaches J&K's Srinagar to hold a high-level meeting in the wake of the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has set up a help desk at the police control room to assist tourists. This help desk will be operational 24 hours a day. According to the District SSP of Anantnag, the help desk can be reached at the telephone numbers: 9596777669 and 01932225870. Additionally, a WhatsApp number 9419051940 has also been provided. Tourists can contact these numbers to obtain the necessary information.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he had held an emergency meeting with senior state officials and dispatched multiple teams to Jammu and Kashmir to coordinate response efforts. The CM's response came after it was reported that tourists from Karnataka had been injured in the attack.

Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday strongly condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam and said the entire country is united against terrorism. They also called upon the Centre to take concrete steps so that such incidents are not repeated.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, saying she was deeply anguished by the incident.

Union Minister Amit Shah departed for Srinagar to review the situation after militants opened fire at tourists in Pahalgam, killing several of them. He also apprised PM Modi about the situation, who instructed him to visit the incident site. 

The death toll in the Pahalgam attack could be more than 20, estimated a high-ranking official without getting into details, as per PTI.

President Droupadi Murmu has condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam. She called the incident “shocking and painful”. 

JK Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo visited Pahalgam after militants showered bullets at tourists.    

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, saying that those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice.

"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakeable and it will get even stronger," the Prime Minister said in a post on X.

Calling the Pahalgam terror attack 'a blot on humanity', Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the "cowardly" attack on innocent tourists. "The entire nation is united in fighting the scourge of cross-border terrorism," he wrote on X.

"We condemn this attack. Those who think that they can harm Jammu & Kashmir's economy with such attacks will not be successful. We are sympathetic towards the injured. We appeal to the tourists from India and the world to come to Kashmir, as J&K is a peace-loving," said Jammu & Kashmir Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"The news of the death of tourists and injuries to many in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely condemnable and heartbreaking. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The whole country is united against terrorism. Instead of making hollow claims of the situation being normal in Jammu and Kashmir, the government should now take accountability and take concrete steps so that such barbaric incidents do not happen in the future and innocent Indians do not lose their lives like this," Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweets, "Deeply anguished by the news of terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir). This dastardly attack on innocent civilians is an act of cowardice and highly reprehensible. My thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families."

On Pahalgam terror attack on tourists, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Briefed PM Modi about the incident and held a meeting with the concerned officials via video conferencing. Will shortly leave for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with all the agencies."

Tourists injured in the terrorist attack have been moved to the local hospital in Pahalgam.

"There can be no bigger enemy of the Kashmiris than the terrorists... Their war is against the hospitality of the Kashmiris... They want tourists to leave Kashmir and that Kashmiris have no source of livelihood. They are enemies of our kids and the coming generations. They are terrorists. Targeting unarmed tourists is the biggest sin. They will neither be forgiven here, nor in the eyes of god," said J&K People's Conference chief Sajad Lone, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah returns to Srinagar from Ramban, following terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22.

PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Pahalgam terror attack and asked him to take all suitable measures. PM also asked the Union Home Minister to visit the site, as per news agency ANI.

The incident comes when Kashmir is witnessing a surge in tourist arrivals after reeling under militancy for years.
Additionally, the 38-day Amarnath pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 3. Lakhs of pilgrims from across the country travel to the cave shrine from the twin routes, the traditional 48 km Pahalgam route in south Kashmir's Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district.

At least 12 tourists were injured in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam in Anantnag district, calling it a "cowardly and despicable" act. "I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished," Sinha in a post on X.

The Lieutenant Governor also said he had spoken to the Director General of Police and other senior security officials. "Army and J&K Police teams have rushed to the area and launched search operations," he added.

"The death toll is still being ascertained so I don’t want to get in to those details. They will be officially conveyed as the situation becomes clearer. Needless to say this attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years," posted JK CM Omar Abdullah wrote on X.
