Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 Live: Both Houses were adjourned till Monday amid opposition ruckus in Parliament. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was set to introduce the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha. The proposed bill seeks to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. Along with this bill, the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, is set to be introduced, while the Upper House will discuss the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday after an hours-long debate. Members from both the NDA and opposition benches participated in the discussion, raising issues related to paper leaks, examination reforms, and measures to ensure fairness in public examinations.
This came a day after the bill was passed by the Lok Sabha. The discussion began at 2:00 PM, with several members sharing their views on the proposed measures. Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also took part in the debate, questioning whether the government's proposed reforms would bring actual changes to the examination system. Kharge stated that merely changing a minister was not enough and alleged that the government had failed to implement effective reforms. The bill was cleared by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Parliament session.
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has also been passed by both Houses of Parliament. The bill seeks to amend the existing law by extending the legal protection currently given to the National Anthem to the national song, Vande Mataram.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the passage of the bill ensuring strict action against examination paper leaks, stating that it will make the system more robust.
