BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi hit back at Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi over her reported "gaumutra" remark aimed at a member of the government-appointed task force on examination reforms. Speaking outside Parliament premises, Trivedi said the Opposition had the "filth of Marx and Macaulay in their minds."

Speaking during the debate on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah appear in the House, issue a statement, and apologise to students over the crackdown on protesters.

According to news agency ANI report, Union Cabinet meeting will be held on Friday, July 31, at 1 pm in Parliament.

Debate continues in Rajya Sabha over the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.

During the House proceedings, Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged use of pellet guns and lathis against students during protests held at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The Bill seeks to amend the existing law by extending the same legal protection given to the National Anthem to the national song, Vande Mataram.

The Lok Sabha proceedings resumed at 3:30 pm. The House continued its discussion on the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

A brief exchange took place in the Rajya Sabha during the debate after LoP Mallikarjun Kharge raised questions about the curriculum and quoted passages from certain textbooks (Manusmriti). Union Minister JP Nadda objected to the references, saying Kharge should not quote material that had not been verified. Responding to the objection, RS Chairman CP Radhakrishnan directed that the portions quoted from the books would not be included in the official records of the House.

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned to meet again at 03:30 PM. 

During debate on anti-paper leak bill, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill has been brought to pacify youth on streets, not to resolve paper leak."

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 has been taken up for consideration and passing in Rajya Sabha, a day after it was passed in Lok Sabha. 

The Congress on Thursday said that the 'rot' in India's education system is deep and Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation as education minister is only the first step in a long journey to restoring its integrity. 

Congress MP Manickam Tagore said, "Leader of Opposition has the right to speak in the Parliament… Yesterday, we all saw how Rahul Gandhiji was not allowed to complete his speech. This never happens. This is an attack on the Parliamentary democracy itself. We feel that the Leader of the Opposition has the right to say whatever he wants, and then the government can reply. This is democracy, but when Rahul Gandhiji stands up to speak, all the Ministers and those MPs from the BJP start disturbing his speeches, not allowing him to speak… This will be very dangerous for India's parliamentary democracy itself."

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote, "Why is Amit Shah so scared of coming to Parliament and explaining the brutal violence against students? It reeks of guilt."

Opposition parties walked out of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday after their demand for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make a statement over police action on students protesting the alleged NEET paper leak.

Speaking on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Home Minister Amit Shah over police action on student protesters, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said, "He has to apologise. You cannot spread lies like this and level such serious allegations against someone."

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, "The Opposition's role has been negative. Ever since the session began, their entire focus has been on disrupting and obstructing the proceedings of the House rather than allowing it to function. I have observed that the Opposition lacks any substantive issues. It is their habit to constantly shift the goalposts. On behalf of the government, I want to make one thing clear: the government led by the PM Modi is ready to discuss every issue—and this is not limited to the current session alone. In all previous sessions, the government has always been prepared to discuss every matter, and whenever a discussion has taken place, the Opposition has faced embarrassment and received a befitting reply because they lack any real issues. Even today—regarding the discussion they had demanded, Jitendra Singh is scheduled to initiate a discussion at 2 PM; a bill is coming up for debate. Yet, it is their habit to keep shifting the goalposts. I strongly condemn the Opposition's conduct..."

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, "Students were lathi-charged, pellet fire used; Home Minister Amit Shah should answer."

Samajwadi Party leaders on Thursday held a protest inside Parliament premises over Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft case. Following the protest, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM.

Speaking over police action on student protesters during Jantar Mantar protest, Congress MP KC Venugopal said, "Who ordered police action in Delhi? Who ordered the firing at students in Delhi? We need an answer from the Union Home Minister. Why is the Home Minister running away from Parliament? He is running away from Parliament, and you are not even allowing the Leader of the Opposition to speak."

Congress MP Randeep Surjewala has submitted a notice in Rajya Sabha seeking urgent discussion on alleged Ram Temple donation theft.

Speaking to news agency PTI over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's remark on Union Home Minister Amit Shah over police action on student protestors, TMC MP Saugata Roy said, "I support Rahul Gandhi; whatever he said was right, there is no question of an apology."

Today, the Rajya Sabha is expected to take up the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 for consideration and passage, a day after its passage in the Lok Sabha. The amended bill proposes stricter punishment for those involved in unfair practices in public examinations. It increases the jail term from the existing three to five years to a minimum of five years, which can be extended up to 10 years.

The Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to amend the 1956 Act to increase the apex court's sanctioned strength from 34 to 38 judges.

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are set to reconvene today at 11:00 AM.
