Parliament LIVE: NEET Debate Derailed After Both Houses Adjourned For The Day; Oppn Presses For Pradhan's Resignation

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gave a sharp reaction after chaos in Parliament over NEET paper leak. She said, "When an 8-hour discussion can take place on Vande Mataram, then a detailed discussion can be held on this issue (NEET paper leak) as well.

In Rajya Sabha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Centre is 100 pc ready for a discussion on NEET paper leak after a meeting with everyone under the chairmanship of the Chair.

He said,"We have said this to the Congress leaders as well as leaders of other parties that the Govt is ready for a discussion but how is the discussion to be taken up has to be decided after meeting with everyone under the chairmanship of the Chair. But if they are looking for excuses to not have a discussion and put up conditions, then it is not right. Our Govt is ready to have a discussion on NEET exam and related matters for the future of the youth. It is our responsibility to tell the nation hatever steps have been taken by the Govt...As soon as the Chairship decides, Govt is 100% ready for a discussion."

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 3pm as government prepares to present the NEET debate plan. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha proceedings concluded for the day.

Madhya Pradesh Congress legislators held a protest in state Assembly over Delhi student crackdown.

The government will announce a discussion plan on NEET controversy at 2 PM in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, "This (black-coloured clothes) is protest and mourning as we can witness the death of democracy. Look, the fact is, politics has come into it. The moment an issue cannot be raised in parliament and creates this kind of discussion, obviously politics also comes into it.

Addressing a press conference and coming down heavily on CJP protests in Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, "The movement started by the CJP and other parties was said to be a student movement. The government's attitude towards this movement has been sensitive... The Delhi Police granted him (Abhijeet Dipke) permission at the airport itself... That permission was valid until 5 PM. But these protesters remained there. They organised a sit-in at Jantar Mantar for 21 days. The Delhi Police did not take any action to remove them. The government did not allow any negligence at its level, and as long as the protest remained peaceful, it allowed it to continue... On 20th July, they said 'Sansad Chalo'... Institutions have a value in a democracy... When the Parliament was surrounded without any permission, even then the Delhi Police showed restraint."

Kiren Rijiju told the Lok Sabha  on Wednesday that the govt is willing to hold a debate on the NEET row, and urged Speaker Om Birla to convene a meeting of all parties to decide on the rule, date and duration of the debate.

Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi was seen having a discussion with Opposition MPs on the Parliament premises as Both houses faced repeated adjournments on Day 3.

BJP MP PP Chaudhary said, "The way Rahul Gandhi held a protest at the PM's residence, it was expected that a LoP would behave maturely. It is the work of the Opposition to question the govt in the Parliament and not come on the roads."

Lok Sabha witnessed another adjournment after a massive ruckus by opposition MPs seeking a detailed discussion on the NEET paper leak issue. Although the government said that it is ready to discuss the issue, it kept mum on the opposition's demand for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar and party MP Supriya Sule met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament, in Delhi.

Heavy barricading was witnessed around key roads in the Parliament area as proceedings entered day 3 on Wednesday. 

Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12 noon.

The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12 pm amid ruckus by Opposition MPs.

MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "What happened with us is irrelevant. You (the media) tell me if what happened with students is right or wrong? Students have genuine demands and are asking for their rights. The Education budget is Rs 1.4 lakh crores, but you are waving off Rs 16 lakh crore loans for Adani and Ambani. Students have a genuine struggle and are asking for change. Paper leaks are happening repeatedly...There is nothing undemocratic with peaceful protest, but what is happening with students and in Parliament is undemocratic."

Opposition MPs wore black clothes for Parliament protest against police action on leaders that took place on Tuesday. 

Rahul Gandhi, who was detained by Delhi Police during a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday, has demanded a discussion in Parliament, action against the policemen who assaulted the students and an apology from the Prime Minister for the action taken on Monday.

On Tuesday, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi accused the government of exploiting students and demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Home Minister Amit Shah over the NEET paper leak controversy.

An adjournment notice under Rule 267 for an immediate discussion on the systemic crisis in India’s examination system was submitted by Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is to move that the Bill further to amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956, be taken into consideration.

On Tuesday, both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha saw repeated adjournments as Opposition MPs protested over the alleged NEET paper leak, and police action on Delhi protesters. 

The government said that it is ready to discuss the NEET controversy and the related protests in Delhi in the Parliament. The Opposition has however demanded an immediate discussion.
