Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE Updates: Both Houses Adjourned Again Till 2 PM As Oppn MPs Continue Sloganeering

Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid sloganeering by Opposition MPs demanding discussion on SIR (Special Intensive Review) and other issues. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal says, "Instead of showing placards, you can submit your proposals, resolutions, and the business advisory committee will consider them. Speakers will give time and the government will respond. Why are you worried?..."

The Ministry of Home Affairs has conveyed the resignation of Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar under Article 67A of the Constitution with immediate effect.

On the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Congress MP Imraan Masood says, "This cannot happen suddenly. Yesterday, he was presiding over the house and today he has resigned. We pray that the Almighty give him a long and healthy life. There is some other reason for his resignation."

On Bihar SIR, RJD MP Manoj Jha says, "If in democracy, the voter is not safe, then democracy is not safe. The Chief Election Commissioner should look into the matter."

On the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, he says, "There is no transparency in the decisions taken by the government. PM Modi has not given any reaction to it, this is also shocking"

Rajya Sabha adjourned till noon as opposition ruckus continues.

Reacting to the reported resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav said, “We have received information that the Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned due to health reasons. It is his personal decision...”

On Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation, Rajya Sabha LoP and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge says, "Only he knows the reason. We have nothing to say on this. Either the government knows or he knows. It is up to the government to accept his resignation or not."

Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka on Tuesday morning moved an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss the self-immolation of a young student from Odisha's Balasore, who died reportedly due to "mental harassment and failure of the institutional mechanisms to respond to her repeated complaints."

On Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "Despite his health situation, he used to conduct parliamentary proceedings... This is the first time a Vice President has resigned in such a shocking manner and hope we get to know more... There should be no disruption in the proceedings of the House and in his work as a Vice President and a Chairman..."

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday morning expressed gratitude towards Jagdeep Dhankar, who resigned as the Vice President of India citing "health reasons". Kalyan credited Dhankar for upholding the dignity of the VP's office and safeguarding constitutional values, while conducting himself with grace, impartiality, and integrity. Dhankar also served as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha after assuming office on August 11, 2022.

The Bihar voter list verification issue is set to be raised in Parliament today, with AAP MP Sanjay Singh and others demanding a debate under Rule 267. Opposition parties allege the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) may disenfranchise voters ahead of the Bihar polls.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday adjourned the proceedings of the lower house till tomorrow, July 22, 11 am. The final adjournment came after the house saw three disruptions on day 1 of the Monsoon Session due to continuous sloganeering by opposition MPs, demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor and Pahalag terror attack.   

A high-level meeting with PM Modi was held at Parliament House today. Senior ministers present in the meeting included Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, and Arjun Meghwal. The meeting likely discussed and made decisions regarding the Parliament session.

An Investigation has been ordered by Director General, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau under Rule 11 of the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents & Incidents) Rules, 2017 to determine the probable cause(s)/contributory factor(s) leading to the accident of Air India flight Al-171 at Ahmedabad on 12.06.2025.

A preliminary report on the accident has been published by AAIB on 12th July, 2025 and is available on their website http://aaib.gov.in. The investigation is in progress to determine the probable cause(s)/contributory factor(s) leading to the accident.

During the last six month, no adverse trend has been reported in reliability reports of Air India in respect of crashed aircraft: Murlidhar Mohol, MoS Civil Aviation

Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav says, "The issue of Pahalagm terror attack is very important. All Opposition parties want there to be a discussion on it. The government should disclose what had happened and if it was an intelligence failure. The PM and the govt should hear the opposition nad we will hear that the govt will have to say..."

On impeachment motion notice against Justice Varma, BJP MP RS Prasad says, "This is a constitutional process. The conduct of an individual judge in terms of propriety is equally important for independence of the judiciary. We have filed our notice in this regard."

Opposition MPs stage walkout from Lok Sabha, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari says, "At 2 pm, when the House re-assembled, we raised the issue that Bihar SIR should be discussed. But when the Chair did not allow it, the Opposition MPs walked out of the House...We are urging that the PM must take part in the discussion (On Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor) because Donald Trump has said 24 times he brokered peace."

Members of Parliament today submitted a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker to remove Justice Yashwant Varma. 145 Lok Sabha members signed the impeachment motion against Justice Verma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution.

MPs from various parties, including Congress, TDP, JDU, JDS, Jan Sena Party, AGP, SS (Shinde), LJSP, SKP, CPM, etc., signed the memorandum. Notable signatories include MPs Anurag Singh Thakur, Ravi Shankar Prasad, LoP Rahul Gandhi, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, PP Chaudhary, Supriya Sule, KC Venugopal, and others.

The lower house of the Parliament, Lok Sabha, on Monday witnessed third adjournment as the Speaker, Om Birla, adjourned the house till 4 pm shortly after proceedings resumed at 2pm. Opposition MPs have created a ruckus in both the houses, demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam Attack. 

On Rahul Gandhi's claim that he is not being allowed to speak in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma says, " He only comes to the House at times, and then wants to speak out of turn. But when it is their time to speak, he doesn't come to the House."

Congress MPs staged walkout in Rajya Sabha demanding answers from PM Narendra Modi on Pahalgam terror attack, US President's remarks, reported PTI.

Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the Western media have their viewpoints, adding that the AAIB is conducting a transparent trial.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi stated that the opposition leaders are not allowed to speak in the house. "The question is - the Defence Minister is allowed to speak in the House, but Opposition members, including me, who is the LoP, are not allowed to speak...This is a new approach...The convention states that if people from the government side can speak, then we should also be given space to speak," Gandhi was quoted as saying by ANI.

After Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha also got adjourned till 12 pm amid chaos. Mallikarjun Karge flagged the issue of Pahalgam attack, adding that the accused are not caught yet.

Union Minister and JD(U) MP Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh stated that the government is ready for discussion on the issues raised by the opposition parties. "Who is running away from a discussion on it? If you want to say that a person who is not a citizen of this country should cast his/her vote,..And then you roam around carrying a copy of the Constitution...How can a person who is not an Indian national cast their vote in India?" Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed media ahead of the first day of the monsoon session. He emphasised that several key issues are set to be discussed in the session.
