Bankipur Bypoll: Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) has suffered a major political setback days before the Bankipur assembly byelection as several prominent figures from the party joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi administered party membership to all the leaders.
Prof KC Sinha, a well-known name in Bihar's education sector and a mathematician, Bittu Singh, a former candidate from the Digha assembly constituency, and Gopal Singh, a former candidate from the Maner assembly constituency, were among the JSP leaders who switched sides amid the key bypoll.
Will Exodus Impact Bankipur Bypoll?
Political analysts believe that the departure of prominent Jan Suraaj leaders in the midst of the Bankipur byelection is a major setback for Prashant Kishor, who made his debut in electoral politics. At a time when the party is trying to demonstrate its political strength in the byelection against the ruling party, the exodus of senior leaders is being seen as a big blow.
The joining of Prof. KC Sinha, Bittu Singh, and Gopal Singh to the BJP is considered politically significant ahead of the Bankipur assembly byelection. Prof. KC Sinha's academic credentials and popularity among students and teachers in the capital, Patna and surrounding areas could send a positive message to the BJP.
On the other hand, this development is being considered a major organisational blow for Jan Suraaj. The party is currently trying to strengthen its base in Bihar, but the frequent defection of key leaders could impact its strategy.
