Pune Metro Update: Good News for Pune Commuters! Pune travellers have something to look forward to as a much-anticipated stop on Pune Metro Line 3 could soon become a reality. The 23-kilometre metro corridor, connecting Maan to Shivajinagar, is currently under construction and is expected to significantly improve the city's public transportation network. Although delayed, the integrated flyover associated with this line is now projected to be ready by 2025.
Pune Metro Line 3 has faced delays primarily due to challenges in constructing the integrated flyover. Initially scheduled for completion by November 2024, the project timeline has been extended due to pending work on ramp and deck slabs, as well as the need for permissions for specific stretches. According to sources from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), about 75% of the flyover work is completed, but the remaining 1.7-kilometre section is expected to be finished only by April 2025, a source told Times of India.
Authorities are prioritising the completion of metro stations between Maan and Balewadi Highstreet by April 2025, despite significant challenges, particularly at University Chowk. Here, road widening and the relocation of electricity poles are crucial to progressing the construction.
The government has directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the concessionaire, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), to focus on completing the flyover section from SPPU to E-Square junction. Measures such as obtaining traffic diversion permissions and initiating road widening projects at select points have been implemented to minimise inconvenience to commuters. Authorities are also ensuring round-the-clock construction, especially on public holidays, to meet the revised deadlines.

Despite these setbacks, the entire metro corridor is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. Once completed, Pune Metro Line 3 will provide an efficient transit option for commuters, alleviate traffic congestion, and significantly enhance the city’s public transportation network.
