Jagran Correspondent, Ranchi: Passengers on a Ranchi-bound IndiGo flight at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport faced hours of inconvenience on Friday after a technical glitch delayed the aircraft's departure. The passengers remained seated inside the plane for nearly two to three hours as engineers worked to address the issue that emerged shortly before takeoff.

Ranchi-Bound IndiGo flight delayed

During this time, the aircraft's air conditioning reportedly failed, leaving passengers in a miserable state amid the intense heat and humidity. As a result, distressed passengers began protesting inside the cabin. According to reports, IndiGo flight 6E-2614 was scheduled to depart from Delhi for Ranchi at 2:40 pm.

However, a technical glitch was detected before takeoff, and the aircraft was prevented from proceeding to the runway. Passengers allege that even after the issue was detected, they were not immediately deplaned and were kept inside the closed cabin for a prolonged period. According to passenger Rakesh Kumar, the temperature inside the aircraft kept rising as the air conditioning was off. Small children, the elderly, and other passengers faced significant discomfort.

Passengers left inside aircraft for hours without AC

As the delay stretched on, passengers started using magazines to fan themselves and trying to cool off with their clothes and other makeshift methods. The passengers' frustration mounted as the issue was not resolved even after several hours, and they were not allowed to disembark. Passengers voiced their frustration to the cabin crew, arguing that they should have been allowed to deplane after the technical glitch in the interest of safety and comfort.

Many said being seated inside the aircraft for an extended period with the air conditioning switched off made the experience extremely uncomfortable. As the passengers protested and created a commotion, the airline management finally acted. The aircraft doors were opened, and passengers were transported back to the terminal via shuttle buses.

Plane departs after technical checks

The flight departed again after undergoing technical checks and completing necessary procedures. Samyak Chakraborty, an IndiGo official in Ranchi, confirmed the flight delay due to a technical glitch. However, he did not provide further details regarding the incident. The incident has once again raised questions concerning passenger amenities, communication systems, and airline responsibilities during emergencies.
