Ranchi-Lucknow Train: Indian Railways is set to launch the much-awaited new train service between Ranchi and Lucknow. The train, running between Purulia and Anand Vihar, will be inaugurated on March 14. On the inaugural day, it will depart from Purulia to Anand Vihar as a special service. This new connection will offer passengers a convenient travel route to Ayodhya, Lucknow, and Delhi, without the need for multiple train changes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the inauguration virtually, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also present. According to a report from Jagran.com, the train will make stops at Ranchi and Muri stations, providing direct access for passengers travelling from Jharkhand’s capital to Lucknow.
On its inaugural run, the train will operate as the 04020 Purulia-Anand Vihar Special. It will depart from Purulia at 2:30 PM, reaching Ranchi at 5:45 PM, passing through Muri along the way. From Ranchi, it will continue its journey, passing through Tori, Latehar, Barwadih, Daltonganj, Garhwa Road, Dehri-on-Son, Sasaram, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Varanasi, Ayodhya Cantt, Lucknow, Bareilly, and Moradabad, before reaching Anand Vihar Terminal at 8:35 PM the following day.

The official start date for regular operations will be announced shortly. The service had been delayed due to the unavailability of rail coaches, but once inaugurated, the new timetable will be issued, and regular services will begin.
The demand for a direct train service between Ranchi, Lucknow, and Ayodhya has been high for several years, and this new service is expected to offer much-needed relief to passengers travelling between Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh’s capital, as well as onward to Delhi.
Ranchi-Lucknow Train: Check Full Route Details
The train will run weekly, passing through key stations such as Ranchi, Lohardaga, Tori, Barwadih, Daltonganj, Garhwa, Japla, Purulia, Banaras, Ayodhya, Lucknow, and Anand Vihar, Delhi.
Train number 14021 will depart from Purulia every Friday at 5:00 PM, arriving in Ranchi at 7:35 PM. On the return leg, the train will depart from Anand Vihar every Thursday.
On the inaugural day, the train will depart Purulia at 2:30 PM, reaching Muri at 3:55 PM, and continue on to Ranchi by 5:45 PM before resuming its onward journey.
