Former president Ramnath Kovind said that Ratan Tata was the symbol of simplicity and humility. "Whenever I used to invite him during banquets at Rashtrapati Bhavan, despite being such a famous industrialist, I saw his humility that he never seemed like one of the big industrialists of our country, he seemed like a patriot, a simple man and always followed protocol. I saw that he had a very good thinking. Most industrialists set up industries for money, but he used to tell everyone that if you people want to set up industries, then national interest should always be there. When we see any of the industries of Tata Group, we will see national interest the most in them," he said.

As Industrialist, philanthropist and dog lover, Ratan Tata, died at the age of 86 in Mumbai yesterday, his dog  'Goa', comes to pay his last respects to Ratan Tata. According to the Caretaker of the dog, the security guards brought the dog from Goa and Tata loved him a lot. 

The mortal remains of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata were brought to Worli crematorium for his last rites, which will be carried out with full state honour.

I visited India for 1 week as a guest of Ratan Tata. That was the character of Ratan Tata. In the business world, he's left behind a legacy which will be very difficult for anybody to beat in many lifetimes...When Tata Steel reduced some of their manpower, he made sure that every person got full salary for the rest of their working years, despite very adverse circumstances, he made a mark for himself right from the beginning..."

"I first met him when I was a kind of middle level in the government. At that time, we started the CEO forum with the United States. He was a natural choice as a person who was to lead it. So those years we used to work together quite closely, travel together to the US...He was really a remarkable person. I think if you look at the outpouring today of feeling, of affection, of respect, I can't remember anybody, in the world of industry who's evoked this kind of emotion among people across a very wide cross section. I mean, it is truly seen as a national loss. He was a man ahead of his time. He took the Tata group abroad in a way...."

The Maharashtra Cabinet has chosen to recommend Ratan Tata for the Bharat Ratna award, according to a report from news agency ANI. Additionally, a condolence proposal was approved by the Cabinet today.

Simi Garewal, who had a warm friendship with Ratan Tata, expressed her grief over his passing on X. Alongside a collage featuring Ratan Tata from his guest appearance on her show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, she wrote, "They say you have gone... It’s so difficult to accept your loss... Farewell, my friend... #RatanTata."

Ratan Tata's mortal remains will be kept for last public tribute at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) today, October 10. In preparation for his final journey from Colaba to NCPA and then to Worli, traffic restrictions are in place, including a closure of Marine Drive and a green corridor for transit.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman took to social platform X to express her deep condolences over veteran industrialist Ratan Tata's demise. “Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata, a leader par excellence, visionary industrialist, and philanthropist whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our society,” she said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister Kumaraswamy and other prominent political leaders on Thursday condoled the demise of Tata Group chairperson emeritus Ratan Tata, who died following prolonged illness.

“His influence on the community, inspiring many to care for community dogs, and to open their hearts and homes to them, is a testament to his enduring legacy. The Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital in Mumbai, a result of his compassion, is already helping countless animals in need, and is sure to become an ally for PETA India’s emergency response work,” Peta wrote. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the last rites of veteran industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Naval Tata scheduled for Thursday on behalf of the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the late industrialist's half-brother Noel Tata and expressed his condolences over the death of Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group Ratan Tata.

"The passing away of Ratan Tata is the end of an era. He was deeply associated with the modernisation of Indian industry. And even more so with its globalisation.Was my privilege to have interacted with him on numerous occasions. And benefitted from his vision and insights. Join the nation in mourning his demise. Om shanti," Jaishankar posted. 

Preparations are underway at NCPA, Nariman Point as the mortal remains of Ratan Tata are to be brought here for the public to pay their last respects before the last rites.

According to a statement, “The mortal remains of Mr Ratan N Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, 10th October 2024, for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage to the departed soul.”

At 4:00 p.m., the mortal remains will embark on its final journey to the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium, Dr. E. Moses Road, Worli.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai has expressed anguish over Ratan Tata's death. “Deeply saddened to know, Shri. Ratan Tata avl, who gave a new meaning to charity & philanthropy throughout his living life; an ethical business leader who had always put fair practices & country’s interest over any short-term needs; who had imprinted his strong unshakeable values on the illustrious Tata Group with its strong corporate governance principles is no more with us! I pray for his eternal sadagati and offer my sincere condolences to the Tata Group and his near and dear ones,” Annamalai wrote in a post on X.

The Jharkhand government has announced a one-day mourning period. Chief Minister Hemant Soren wrote in his message of condolence on X (formerly Twitter) that a one-day state mourning is being declared upon the passing of Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group and Padma Vibhushan awardee, who gave recognition to a backward state like Jharkhand on the world stage.

Industrialist Ratan Tata's mortal remains have been kept at his residence in Colaba. On the occasion of Ratan Tata's passing, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that Ratan Tata was not only a very successful industrialist but also a great individual. He has worked for the country and society. He built not only a successful industry but also a brand that gave our country a global identity... This is a significant loss for the country.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted, "In my last meeting with Ratan Tata at Google, we discussed the progress of Waymo, and it was inspiring to hear his vision. He has left an extraordinary business and philanthropic legacy and has played a crucial role in guiding and developing modern business leadership in India. He had a deep concern for making India better. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, and may Mr. Ratan Tata rest in peace."

Priyanka Chopra tweeted, "Through your kindness, you touched the lives of millions. Your legacy of leadership and generosity will continue to inspire generations. Thank you for your unmatched passion and dedication for everything you did for our country. You have been an inspiration to us all and will be greatly missed, Sir."

Ratan Tata will be given a farewell with state honours. People in Mumbai will be able to pay their last respects from 10 AM.

Mumbai Police's Additional Commissioner for the South Zone, Abhinav Deshmukh, stated that Ratan Tata's body will be kept at the NCPA for public viewing from 10 AM to 3:30 PM. He also appealed to those coming for the final viewing to follow police instructions, as there will be no parking facility available. Visitors are advised to arrange their own parking. The police will be fully deployed.
