RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: The junior doctors in Kolkata resumed total 'cease work' on Tuesday and demanded the state government take care of their safety and security at hospitals.
This comes a day after the Supreme Court on Monday sought to place on record the report of the National Task Force in regards to safety and other issues related to professionals in the matter regarding the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor at Kolkata-based RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
"We do not see any positive approach from the state government to fulfil our demands for safety and security. Today is the 52nd day (of the protest) and we are still being attacked and there is no attempt to keep the other promises made during the meetings with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In the given situation, we are left with no option other than opting for full cease work, starting today," Aniket Mahato, one of the junior doctors, told PTI.
"Unless we see clear action from the state government on these demands, this complete cease work will continue," he added.
The WBJDF has also pointed out that they had withdrawn their earlier cease-work agitation on September 19 following assurances from the state government that the security measures in medical colleges and hospitals will be enhanced and the doctors and healthcare workers will be ensured a safe, fear-free workplace.
However, WBJDF added, "It has become increasingly clear to them that they have not yet secured an appropriate fear-free environment for our return to work, especially in light of the incidents like the attack on junior doctors at the School of Medicine & Sagore Dutta Hospital at Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas district on last Friday night."
"In this situation, we are compelled to return to a full cease-work starting today. Unless we receive clear action from the government on safety, patient services, and the politics of fear, we will have no choice but to continue our full strike," the WBJDF statement read.
