The Supreme Court pulled up a woman lawyer for entering in a relationship with her client. The apex court granted anticipatory bail to her client in a criminal case filed by the woman lawyer. She had been representing him in his matrimonial dispute before entering into a relationship.

A female lawyer had filed a criminal case against him, in which the Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to the man. The top court reprimanded the woman lawyer, questioning her professional ethics. "What kind of behaviour is this? You have entered into a relationship with the person whose divorce case you were fighting," the court asked.

According to a Bar & Bench report, a bench headed by Justice BV Nagarathna first reprimanded the woman lawyer and questioned her conduct as a lawyer for having an intimate relationship with a client, especially when the female lawyer was helping the man in getting a divorce.

Lawyer Files Criminal Case Against Her Client

The accused is currently living in London. The bench said that if he comes to India, he will get relief from arrest. Apart from this, the court asked the lawyer why she had an intimate relationship with her own client. The bench also said that the relationship between the two was with mutual consent. "Neither of them was ready to marry the other. Then why was the case filed?" asked the bench. It clearly said that the criminal complaint of the woman lawyer was without any reason.

The bench told the lawyer that professional responsibility and dignity were expected from her. "You were helping a man get a divorce, and you developed an intimate relationship with him. Such intimacy occurred when the man had not even got a divorce from his wife, and the case was still going on," the court asserted.

Meanwhile, the lawyer of the accused said that the female lawyer has so far filed cases of sexual harassment against 4 people. Even the Bombay High Court had raised questions on her behaviour and called for an investigation, he added.
