India is reeling under an intense heatwave as 21 cities across five states recorded temperatures of 42 Degrees C or higher today. The scorching heat is expected to continue, especially in Delhi, which will remain under heatwave conditions for the next three days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the ongoing rise in temperatures across regions like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, and Delhi is linked to reduced wind speeds—particularly affecting the national capital.

The IMD said, “Morning wind speeds are expected to be around 8–10 km/h, but will slow to 4–6 km/h in the afternoon, picking up slightly in the evening.” The lower wind speed is contributing to increased heat buildup during the day.

Barmer Breaks April Heat Record

Rajasthan’s Barmer district emerged as the hottest place in the country, hitting 45.6 Degrees C—the highest ever recorded there in the first week of April. This is 6.8 Degrees C above the seasonal average, breaking the previous April record of 45.2 Degrees C set in 1998.

Other cities in Rajasthan also reported sweltering conditions:

- Jaisalmer: 45.0 Degrees C

- Chittorgarh: 43.2 Degrees C

- Jodhpur: 43.0 Degrees C

- Kota: 42.4 Degrees C

- Jalore: 42.0 Degrees C

Officials warn that heatwave conditions will worsen in Rajasthan, with temperatures possibly rising by another 3 to 4 degrees over the coming days. On Monday, areas in southwestern Rajasthan may experience temperatures between 44–45 Degrees C, while eastern regions could see 42–44 Degrees C.
