Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) chief Prem Singh Tamang was sworn in as the chief minister of Sikkim on Monday. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prem Singh Tamang, who is popularly known as PS Golay, at a function held in Gangtok's Paljor Stadium.
Prem Singh Tamang (56) will head the government in Sikkim for the second consecutive term after his party registered a landslide victory in the recently conducted 2024 Sikkim Assembly elections. SKM won 31 assembly seats while the main opposition party Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) managed to secure only a single seat in the state legislative body.
Prem Singh Tamang was unanimously elected the leader of SKM legislative party during a party meeting on Saturday. He will assume office for the five-year tenure with only one opposition MLA in the 32-member state assembly constituency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Prem Singh Tamang after he took oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for the second time. PM Modi said that he looks forward to working with him for the progress of the Himalayan state.
