The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response from the Central government and Safdarjung Hospital on the petition filed by Sonam Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali Angmo, after the single bench rejected her demand to discharge him from Safdarjung and transfer him to Medanta Hospital. The apex court has set Tuesday for the next hearing.

"We will take a call on Tuesday on the appeal by Sonam Wangchuk's wife against treatment at Safdarjung Hospital," the Delhi HC was quoted as stating by news agency PTI.

The top court has directed that all pathological reports prepared based on the examination of samples at Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS, and private labs be filed in an affidavit, and that they be verified by the Director of Safdarjung Hospital.

The court also directed the AIIMS director and other consulting and treating doctors, including the In-charge of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS, Dr Akshay, to be present during the hearing on Tuesday to assist the court in the case.

The next hearing will start at 12:30 PM on Tuesday. The Supreme Court also requested the doctor engaged by Wangchuk’s family to appear to assist the Court.

Delhi HC's Single Bench refused transfer

Earlier on Sunday, the single bench of the Delhi High Court refused to provide relief to Angmo and backed the government's decision to hospitalise Wangchuk.

While giving the order, the single bench of the high court observed that the educationist was not in detention and that his wife and brother had 24X7 access at Safdarjung Hospital.

"Considering these facts, no interim order is required to be passed at this stage,” the Court said while issuing notice on the petition.

The single bench had also cited the earlier Division Bench order to uphold the government's action to hospitalise Wangchuk. "Wangchuk's potassium level is dangerously low, and the Court notes that IV fluids have not been administered as he did not consent. The Court holds that the government’s decision to shift Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital cannot be termed arbitrary, as it was taken in view of his deteriorating medical condition and the earlier Division Bench order," the court had stated.
