Supreme Court lawyer Amita Sachdeva has filed a complaint at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi District against student protester Nishu Azad and her father, Sanjay Azad. She alleged that posts on Nishu's X account contained derogatory references to Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Durga.

Sachdeva has requested the registration of an FIR under Sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 196 (promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with applicable provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, news agency ANI reported.

In her complaint, the Advocate-on-Record said, "I am a practising Hindu. I viewed the posts listed below on X (formerly Twitter) while at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. The posts remain publicly available and have outraged my religious feelings and those of other Hindus."

What The Complaint Says?

According to the complaint, four posts from the X account @Nishuazad11, uploaded between September 2023 and August 2026, allegedly insulted the four Hindu deities. The complaint states that the four posts, published through electronic means, insulted Hindu deities and religious beliefs with deliberate and malicious intent to outrage the religious feelings of the Hindu community. Sachdeva stated that she had earlier sought the removal of the posts, but they remained available online.

The complaint states that Nishu has identified herself as a minor, leading Sachdeva to name her father as her guardian. The lawyer has requested an investigation into the allegation that the account was being operated by a minor within his household and the allegedly offending content was not taken down despite prior notice.

Sachdeva has asked authorities to preserve the four posts, associated media, X platform records, IP logs, device details, and other electronic evidence, while taking immediate steps to prevent further circulation of the allegedly offending content.

Controversy Surrounding Nishu's Father And 'Influencer' Bhardwaj

The complaint comes amid an ongoing controversy involving Nishu's father. Influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj reportedly claimed in an interview that he 'cracked' Sanjay's skull during a Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar, boasting that his connection to political leaders like Chirag Paswan and Kapil Mishra would allow him to walk free.

The remarks drew criticism from Opposition leaders. The CJP on Friday organised a protest to demand Bhardwaj's arrest and criticised the Delhi Police over alleged inaction. Paswan also distanced himself from Bhardwaj and sought an FIR against him for using his name.
