Gujarat’s diamond city is all set to get its first Vande Bharat Express, which would run from Surat to Udaipur, connecting the western coast with Rajasthan. The Ministry of Railways approved the service, which is likely to run six days a week and will begin operating before Navaratri. With this, Gujarat gets its sixth Vande Bharat.

Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Timings

The Railways added that the new Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express will feature eight coaches and operate six days a week. The Vande Bharat train will have Tuesday as its weekly off. The train will leave Surat at 6.10 am and reach Udaipur at 1.40 pm. On the return journey, it will depart Udaipur at 3.35 pm and arrive in Surat at 11 pm.

This means passengers will be able to cover the Surat-Udaipur journey in approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes.The train service is likely to be useful for tourists, traders and families travelling from Surat and other parts of south Gujarat to Rajasthan.

The train’s primary maintenance facility will be located in Surat. Water-refilling arrangements will be available at Vadodara and Asarwa stations in Ahmedabad.

The new service is expected to make the journey more comfortable and convenient for passengers travelling between Gujarat and Rajasthan, while also supporting tourism and business movement between the two states.

Meanwhile, the Railway Ministry has also approved a change to the existing Vande Bharat service on this route. Train numbers 26963/26964 Udaipur City-Asarwa (Ahmedabad) Vande Bharat Express, which began operations in February this year, will be permanently discontinued in its current form.

The route has now been extended and upgraded up to Surat. As a result, the existing Asarwa-Udaipur service will effectively operate as the new Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express.

Union Minister Reacts

Sharing a post on social media, Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil announced the approval. He said the Railway Board had approved the six-day-a-week Vande Bharat service between Surat and Udaipur and that it would soon begin serving passengers.

Patil said the new train would make travel between Gujarat and Rajasthan faster, safer and more convenient, while also giving a boost to tourism, trade and social ties.

The Union Minister then thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the new service for Surat and south Gujarat.
