State Bureau, Kolkata | TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Mamata Banerjee's most vocal supporter amid the ongoing crisis in the Trinamool Congress, has surprised everyone with her remark on West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in which she revealed that she shared a very good bond with the BJP leader.

In an interview with the BBC, Moitra heaped praise on Adhikari, recalling her long-standing and cordial relationship with him. Mahua recounted how Adhikari stood by her like an elder brother during the darkest period of her political career. Moitra, becoming emotional, recounted that when she was denied a ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she was devastated and cried all night. It was Adhikari who consoled her, saying, "Sister, I am with you."

Moreover, during the 2016 assembly elections, when Mahua was contesting Karimpur for the first time, and no major leader came to campaign for her, it was Adhikari who held the first public meeting there.

Can Never Forget His Support: Moitra

Although Moitra clarified that she currently has no contact with him, she can never forget the help he provided her. The timing of the statement created outrage on social media, as many guessed that she may also desert Mamata.

Reacted to the speculation, Moitra replied to a user on X, saying, "Yes, it is cherry picked pls listen to the full interview. Suvendu is no angel but he had the guts to leave & fight on their ticket unlike these traitors. And I had a good relationship with him while he was in our party but have never spoken to him since he left. Why make these comments without listening to the full interview?"

In another statement, she targeted the ribal leaders of TMC, who declared Arup Roy as the party chairperson. “If Ritabrata Banerjee is TMC, Arup Roy is the chairperson and not Mamata Banerjee, then I am the queen of England,” she mocked the rebel leaders.
