Tamil Nadu Election 2026: With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 fast approaching, thousands of young, first-time voters will step into polling booths for the first time. According to the official notification by the Election Commission of India (ECI), Tamil Nadu will go to the polls on April 23, 2026, and the results will be announced on May 4, 2026.

This year’s election sees the participation of several prominent political alliances, including the AIADMK-led NDA, TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam), NTK (Naam Tamilar Katchi), and the DMK’s Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA).

Here are five steps which will help first-time voters to cast their vote:

1. Verify Your Name in the Voter List

Before election day, ensure that your name appears in the electoral roll. You can verify this online using your EPIC number or personal details. Without being on the list, you will not be allowed to vote, even if you have a valid Voter ID card.

2. Find Your Polling Booth

Once your registration is confirmed, locate your designated polling booth. This information is available online or through voter helplines. Knowing your polling station ahead of time can save you from confusion on the day of voting.

3. Carry Valid Identification

On polling day, make sure to bring your Voter ID card to the booth. If you don't have it, you can still vote by presenting other valid identification documents, such as an Aadhaar card, passport, driving licence, or PAN card, as long as your name is listed on the voter roll.

4. Complete the Verification Process

Upon arrival at the booth, election officials will verify your identity. They will mark your finger with indelible ink to indicate that you have cast your vote, which helps prevent duplicate voting.

5. Cast Your Vote

Once verified, proceed to the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and select your preferred candidate or party symbol. A Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slip will briefly display your selection as confirmation. After voting, exit the booth quietly and respect the confidentiality of the process.
