Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several regions of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall till January 3. The weather department further stated that the temperature is likely to drop by two to three degrees Celsius in several districts, including the capital city, Chennai. It further stated that the southern districts are set to witness cold wave and dense fog, especially in the early hours, adding to inconveniences to the travellers. The weather department asserted that the coastal and northern regions are set to witness light rain on January 1. It further advised the residents to plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.

January 1: The weather department stated that several regions of northern districts, Puducherry, and Karaikal are set to witness light to moderate rain with thunderstorms due to a western disturbance. Apart from this, light fog is expected in some places in the early hours, affecting visibility.

January 2: The IMD stated that light to moderate rain is expected in south Tamil Nadu. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to waterlogging in several regions, leading to inconveniences.
January 3: Several regions of south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are set to receive light to moderate rain on Saturday.
While the capital city Chennai is not likely to witness rain in the upcoming days, the temperature is likely to drop in the upcoming days. While the maximum temperature in Chennai is likely to be calculated at 30 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is set to remain around 20 degrees Celsius. The presence of fog is likely to lead to inconvenience to the commuters, the weather department stated.

Along with Tamil Nadu, several other states, including Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra, are also likely to witness a cold wave.
