Congress is facing a tough challenge within the party in Telangana, as one of the most influential state leaders, Konda Surekha, has been removed from the cabinet by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Reacting to her ouster, Surekha alleged that she wasn't given a chance to present her case before the action was taken.
She also questioned the authenticity of the letter announcing her ouster as it was unsigned. She alleged that the action was motivated by revenge.
Surekha, who served as the Telangana Forest Minister, was shown the way out after days of controversy over her daughter, Konda Sushmita's rebellious remarks against the CM.
Sushmita had been mulling contesting the Parkal seat in the 2028 assembly polls on a Congress ticket. However, Revanth Reddy's public support to sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy prompted her to take a defiant position.
On August 19, Sushmita asked, "Who is Revanth to decide my ticket?" Challenging Revuri Reddy to resign and contest against her, she vowed to contest Parkal as an independent candidate if the party denies her a ticket.
Her remarks caused resentment among Congress leaders, where a section already considers Surekha as an outsider. Surekha had been a protege of stalwart leader and former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Later, she backed Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), now BRS and former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao. Her stint in the BRS was of four years after she joined Congress.

As the controversy escalated, a show-cause notice was issued to her on August 20, and the matter reached the top brass in Delhi.
On Raksha Bandhan, Surekha reached Revanth Reddy's home and tied a rakhi to him, which suggested that the matter was ended and the differences were set aside.
However, the matter had already escalated to become more of a disciplinary issue than a personal attack issue.
