Trains Delayed: Train services were severely disrupted amid dense fog and poor visibility on Wednesday, with the Ayodhya Cantt Vande Bharat, Lucknow Swarna Shatabdi and Varanasi Vande Bharat running over 11 hours behind schedule.

More than 80 trains arriving in Delhi, including the Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Sealdah, Dibrugarh, Mumbai and Rajendra Nagar Rajdhani Expresses, were delayed by 2 to 12 hours. Several trains departing from the national capital were also impacted.

The weather worsened the situation as temperatures dipped sharply. The minimum temperature fell by three degrees Celsius, from 9.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday to 6.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Delhi's air quality remained in the very poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board's SAMEER app, Delhi's air quality index was recorded at 388 at 9 am.

Meanwhile, at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, 148 flights were cancelled, while more than 150 others faced delays. The 148 cancelled flights include 78 arrivals and 70 departures. Travel advisory was issued for passengers by airlines including - IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet.

In view of adverse weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the New Year, urging residents to remain cautious. According to the latest weather bulletin, dense to very dense fog accompanied by a severe cold wave is likely to persist during the late-night and early-morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Delhi, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh.
