Uttarakhand Electricity Bill Hike: Consumers opting for electricity through open access will be levied an additional surcharge of Rs 1.05 per unit. This rate will be applicable for the period from April 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026.
The surcharge is intended to compensate the power distribution company for the cost of electricity that remained unutilised despite being contracted in advance. Stakeholders have been invited to submit their suggestions on the proposal.
According to the Electricity Regulatory Commission, approximately 241.93 million units of electricity remained unutilised during this period. The average cost of power in the state pool stood at Rs 0.91 per unit, while after including the approved cost, it amounts to Rs 1.05 per unit.
The additional surcharge will be imposed on this basis. This decision will apply to consumers who procure electricity through the open access route. The Commission stated that this measure will help protect the distribution company from financial losses and maintain a balanced power supply system.
