Weather Forecast Today: Monsoon rains are pouring heavily across northern India. The Delhi-NCR region was battered by incessant rains on Thursday morning triggering severe waterlogging and massive traffic snarls. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram while Noida and Ghaziabad have been placed on a yellow alert. As per the weather body, the rain activity will intensify in Delhi over the next few hours.
Several districts in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have been receiving rain since last night. Incessant rains have also wreaked havoc in Mumbai with an orange alert currently in place. Intense rain activity is likely to continue in the city over the next 48 hours. The southwest monsoon remains active and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over northwest, central, west coast and northeast India.
The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rain in the sub-Himalayan region of Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Karnataka coast, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan.

Heavy rain is also expected in Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Kerala. Delhi in currently on IMD's red alert. The Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds of 40 to 60 kilometre per hour in some areas.
Rail and road traffic affected in Maharashtra. Continuous rains in Maharashtra have caused river levels to rise, leading to waterlogging and landslides at several locations. The Godavari River is in spate in Nashik.
Heavy rains in Mumbai disrupted local train services and flooded several areas. Long-distance trains to Gujarat were also affected due to waterlogging in the Vasai-Virar area of Palghar.
According to IANS, 62 people and 200 animals have died in the state since the monsoon season began on June 1. In a village in Palghar, locals used a house door as a stretcher to carry a pregnant woman through deep water to the hospital.

Extremely heavy rainfall was observed in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and South Karnataka, with rainfall amounts of 21 cm or more. All these areas experienced heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch, Madhya Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Bihar, Meghalaya, and Tripura have experienced very heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Rainfall of 12 to 20 centimeters has been recorded in these areas.
Heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm occurred over East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, North Interior Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
