Weather Update: The residents of the northern states are likely to get relief from the scorching heat due to light to heavy rainfall in the coming days. The activation of a western disturbance, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, and a cyclonic circulation forming over Punjab and Haryana will trigger rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), these regions are expected to experience not only rainfall but also thunderstorms and strong surface winds.
The weather is expected to change remarkably in several states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. The rainfall is likely to provide relief from the scorching heat by reducing the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius. However, the weather department clarified that severe heatwaves will persist across the central and northwestern regions.
As per the IMD, the influence of Western Disturbance will begin in the late hours of May 28, and the intensity of rain will significantly increase from May 29 onwards. While the continuous rainfall will provide relief from the heat, it will also lead to waterlogging in the lower regions, causing inconveniences.
As per the weather department, while the monsoon did not arrive in Kerala on May 26, it has advanced further into parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and the Bay of Bengal. Earlier this month, the IMD had predicted that the monsoon would hit Kerala on May 26. However, it also stated that its arrival could be four days earlier or later.

The monsoon typically arrives in Kerala around the first week of June; however, it had reached the state on May 24 last year. The IMD stated that the weather conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon over the next two to three days.
