Following the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has added both new talent and familiar faces to its roster of candidates. One of these longstanding members is KA Sengottaiyan, who was once a prominent member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Recently, he became the Chief Coordinator for the Executive Committee of TVK and won the Gobichettipalayam constituency for a ninth time, his first, and was recognised for doing so both for the TVK Party and without any other party affiliation of his own.
With close to 50 years in politics, Sengottaiyan is one of the longest-served politicians in the history of Tamil Nadu; he was born on January 9, 1948, and first entered the Vidhan Sabha at the age of 29 in 1977. He continued to build his reputation and was a trusted advisor to the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa throughout their entire working relationship, and he has served in many high-profile positions over the years, including the school education portfolio.
Additionally, after being forced out of the AIADMK due to a split within the party in November 2025, Sengottaiyan joined the TVK and immediately began working as a major strategist for the party, providing critical guidance and leadership following his entry into the TVK through to today.
To celebrate another successful election cycle and the future of the TVK Political Party, Sengottaiyan led a major roadshow through Erode on the eve of counting the election results and was cheered on by hordes of fans and supporters.
He retained his dominance in Gobichettipalayam even after changing parties. He won by defeating N Nallasivam of the DMK with a margin of 16,620 votes and received a final total of 82,612 votes as of the official count.
TVK performed well overall in the election, winning the most seats with 108 and becoming the largest party in the Assembly. An upset of note was the defeat of sitting Chief Minister MK Stalin in Kolathur by TVK’s VS Babu.
