Delhi: Commuters travelling from Yamunapar to Central and New Delhi are set to get some relief, as the Delhi government is planning to construct two new bridges near Chandgi Ram Akhara and Loha Pul.

Once completed, these bridges will ease the commute from East and Northeast Delhi to major central hubs, including Connaught Place and ITO, reducing traffic congestion.

Heavy Traffic Congestion On THESE Routes

Currently, due to heavy traffic from across the Yamuna River, vehicles often crawl on the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road. This congestion peaks during rush hours around Kashmere Gate, ISBT, and the Old Iron Bridge.

The Geeta Colony Bridge near Shantivan is particularly prone to traffic jams in the evening, while traffic pressure is steadily increasing on Vikas Marg near ITO.

How The New Bridges Will Ease Traffic Congestion?

The construction of new bridges near Chandgi Ram Akhara and Loha Pul will distribute the traffic load across multiple routes, reducing congestion at existing chokepoints, including ITO, Kashmere Gate, and the Signature Bridge.

Currently, more than 14 bridges, both large and small, have been built over the Yamuna River between Wazirabad and the Okhla Barrage.

Barapullah Phase-3 Elevated Corridor

Commuters across the national capital have another reason to celebrate as the highly anticipated Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor over the Yamuna River is nearing completion. The Public Works Department (PWD) has set a target to complete this corridor by June 30.

Once operational, this corridor will provide a direct, signal-free connectivity from Mayur Vihar Phase 1 (East Delhi) to Sarai Kale Khan and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Currently, vehicles coming from across the Yamuna River have to travel to AIIMS via the Ring Road, which increases the distance. Once this corridor opens, the journey from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS can be covered in just 15 to 20 minutes.
